Restricting Team Email Invitations to Team Administrators Only

Applies to: Mattermost all server versions

Symptoms: All team members can send email invitations or share team invite links; organization wants to restrict this to team administrators only.

Confirmation status: Pending confirmation — engineer provided the steps; customer has not confirmed.

🛑 Problem

By default, all team members can send email invitations and share team invite links via the Add Team Members permission. Restricting this to team administrators requires adjusting the Permission Scheme.

✅ Solution

Steps

1. Go to System Console > User Management > Permissions > System Scheme.
2. In the All Members section, uncheck Add Team Members.
3. In the Team Administrators section, ensure Add Team Members remains checked.
4. Click Save.

Important: This change applies globally to all teams using the System Scheme. Teams with a custom Permission Scheme are not affected.
