How to Enable and Collect Debug Logs in the Mattermost Desktop App

If you're encountering an issue with the Mattermost Desktop App that persists after restarts or resets, collecting debug logs can help us better understand what's going on and speed up the resolution.

Follow the steps below to enable debug logging, reproduce the issue, and send us the logs.

Step 1: Enable Debug Logging

  1. Open the Settings Menu
    • From the Mattermost Desktop App, go to File > Settings (on Windows/Linux), or Mattermost > Settings (on macOS).
    • Alternatively, press Ctrl + , (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + , (macOS) to open settings directly.

Step 2: Reproduce the Issue

After enabling Debug logging, please reproduce the issue you're experiencing. This ensures that the logs will capture the relevant events.

Step 3: Locate and Send the Logs

  1. Go to help > Show Logs in the Mattermost Desktop App.

  2. This will open a file explorer window with the log files.

  3. Attach the most recent log file when contacting support.

⚠️ Important Note

Once the logs are collected and shared, it's recommended to disable Debug logging.

Leaving Debug mode on for extended periods may impact app performance and generate large log files.

To turn it off, go back to Settings and set the logging level back to Info.
