If you're not receiving notifications in the Mattermost Desktop App, there are a few key settings you should check to ensure notifications are properly enabled both at the system and app level.
1. Grant system notification permissions
Your operating system may be blocking Mattermost from showing notifications. You’ll need to grant permissions through your device’s system settings:
-
On Windows: Open the Settings app and navigate to System > Notifications. Locate Mattermost and ensure notifications are enabled.
-
On macOS: Open System Settings > Notifications, select Mattermost, and confirm that notifications are allowed.
If you're on Linux, consult your desktop environment’s notification settings to ensure Mattermost is allowed to send notifications.
2. Grant Mattermost server-level notification permissions
Starting with Mattermost Desktop App v5.9, individual servers also require explicit notification permissions. You can verify this by:
-
Clicking the server dropdown in the top bar.
-
Selecting Edit Server.
-
Ensuring the Notifications toggle is enabled.
3. Test your notification settings in-app
Once permissions are set, test your configuration from within the Mattermost app:
-
Go to Settings > Notifications.
-
Click Send a test notification.
This helps confirm that your device and server are both able to deliver notifications.
