In August 2023, Mattermost announced that the company would no longer support the Boards plugin and would transition to community support.
However, in the first half of 2024, after receiving feedback and evaluating the adoption of the Boards plugin among Enterprise customers, Mattermost decided to continue providing support for the plugin with its current capabilities.
The current state of Mattermost Boards
-
The Mattermost Boards plugin is currently in maintenance mode. Mattermost is only supporting bug fixes for issues reported by our Enterprise customers, as well as security vulnerabilities, as needed.
-
Mattermost is not actively developing new features for Boards, and there are no plans for future improvements in the roadmap.
-
Boards has been removed from the in-product App Marketplace and is not enabled by default for new Mattermost instances.
What does this mean for current customers that are using Boards?
-
If a customer is actively using Boards, they can continue to use it as-is with no action required. They will receive any bug fixes or security patches for Boards prepackaged with future server updates.
-
If customers have new Boards feature requests, they can forward them to their CSM or Account Executive for future consideration; however, Boards isn't in the product roadmap at this time for any improvements or new features.
What does this mean for new Mattermost Enterprise customers?
-
Boards is not available by default for new Enterprise customers with self-hosted or cloud-based installations.
-
If Boards is table stakes for an Enterprise customer:
-
Self-hosted Enterprise customers can upload and enable Boards manually in the System Console.
-
Cloud Enterprise customers can request our Cloud Support Team enable Boards for their instance.

How do I export my Boards data?
- You can export your boards to CSV files. To do this, select the options menu (…) to the left of the New button at the top of the board, then select Export to CSV. The CSV will contain all the cards in that board and their associated properties. Learn more in our docs.
- If you’re missing cards in your CSV export, you may have a search query that’s filtering items in the board. Try clearing your search and exporting to CSV again.
